Day 12 Journal Twin Falls, ID to Burley, ID
I rode my bike 38.82 miles today. Another great day! It was warm and sunny when we started out of Twin Falls at 8:00 AM this morning. Since it was such a short distance we had a later breakfast and later luggage loading. Those who were participating in the scavenger hunt were given the list of things to collect. Some of the things to collect and look for were a pretty rock, a store stamp from any store in Burley, a flower, anything unusual along side the road, a clothespin, a church key – and the list went on for a total of about 15 different things. I wasn’t much help from for the team, but I guess none of us collected very many of the things on the list. There will be judging and presentation of our collections this evening.
I was planning on going to the waterfalls and swimming area on the route today. Most riders did stop there. But I somehow missed the turn off the route that took you to the falls. They were saying it was just beautiful and a fun side trip. I’m sure a lot of the other website bloggers will post some photos. I was riding most of the way until about mile 28 with Kirk. He is an interesting guy and is a professor who teaches history. He was telling me his wife is going to go on her own adventure leaving tomorrow for a hiking trip to the Canadian Rockies. After the sag stop I hop scotched along the road with the tandem bike riders, Bill and Daun from Tucson, AZ. We were running about 22-25 mph coming down the stretch of secondary and less traveled road that led into Burley. We arrived at the hotel just after 10:30 AM. Plenty of time to go get some lunch and walked across the street and wander the isles of Wal-Mart. Since our luggage truck hadn’t arrived nor the rooms ready those of us who were in super early we went for some brunch/food. I cycled across the street to Wal-Mart for some sunscreen and a banana. I saw Franz there too picking up some grocery items and a big bottle of sunscreen. Franz is an Ear/Nose/Throat physician in his country and has traveled all over to lead many humanitarian groups.
I have begun to see more cowboys now – all driving their pickup trucks and always wearing those big cowboy hats. This is so fun to see because we just don’t see this back in Ohio. Saw more fields of beets, and potatoes again today. Everyone irrigates the crops here.
I’m going to head back to the room now and take a nap. I want to get plenty of rest for the 110-mile ride we have tomorrow. We head a little more east and then go north up to Blackfoot. This stop here in Burley, Idaho is the most southern point on our entire route.
Road Kill: 1 skunk, 1 snake, 1 bird
Bananas: 2 Short day today so only 2‘nanas.
Weather: PERFECT. Low 80’s, and sunny. Wonderful headwind today!! Yee-haw!
